Runner Up: Renise Walker
Aurora, Colorado
Congratulations Renise!

Renise's Bio:

When I stumbled on the WOW website in May I fell in love with its personality. I never imagined I'd find anything better than an invigorating writing site powered by talented and quirky women. Of course I loved it even more when I received an email informing me that my very first contest entry had made it into the top ten. Although I am an aspiring publisher, my writing rarely escaped the pages of my journal and an occasional Myspace post prior to this contest. Since submitting my story in May, I have been laboring away on Young Savvy- a lifestyle development company helping people Redesign Their Lives and establishing my freelance portfolio. When I'm not writing I can be found indulging in a good book, traveling as much as my wallet permits, and spending time enjoying life with family and friends.

Do you love the life you are living? Stop by youngsavvy.com and share your story!

Thanks for Ruining My Dinner

“Dammit, where are they?” It was already a quarter ‘til eight and the suspense was eating away at my patience. Why my best friend failed to mention anything about the guy she was marrying was beyond me. Now, only forty-eight hours before the wedding she and her fiancé had the nerve to arrive late for dinner.

I whipped out my compact for the 5th time in a futile attempt to keep myself occupied. This guy must have some major dysfunction, I thought. Why else would Stacey try so hard to keep their relationship under wraps? I racked my brain trying to imagine the mystery fiancé. In the past six months she'd dated Steve, the married doctor who was conveniently in his 3rd year of trying to divorce his wife. Then there was Marcus, the sexy musician who could never seem to keep a job.

In fact, the closest Stacey had come to a decent boyfriend was Greg. He practiced corporate law and was months away from making partner. He talked a lot but he wasn't such a blabbermouth that Stacey would need to hide their engagement from me.

What if it was one of my ex-boyfriends…? No, Stacey wouldn't dare. She spent one day with my ex Josh and called me balling her eyes out for fear she had betrayed our friendship. At the time I'd shrugged it off like it was no big deal, but she should have known that I was lying. What woman is ever actually okay with their friend dating an ex? I mean I would never go so far as….Michael Jackson's Thriller came blaring from my cell phone. I picked up to hear Stacey's garbled voice on the other end.

“Tina I'm so sorry.” she proclaimed.

“Stacey, where are you? I can't wait any longer,” I whined.

“Tell her parking is a nightmare. I'm going to drop you off at the door so I can park the car.”

The husky male voice in the background sounded eerily familiar but I couldn't quite figure out who it was.

“I'll be there any minute. I can't wait to see you. I just hope you won't…the phone cut out.

Just as I slammed my phone in frustration Stacey walked through the door.

“Finally!” I yelped as I captured Stacey in a warm embrace. Her greeting was less enthusiastic than I expected.

“Tina, listen to me. I know I should've warned you but I couldn't bring myself to do it over the phone. He's just so incredible and I didn't want to end things between us.”

My stomach started churning. Stacey had pulled some crazy stunts in the past but I never imagined she would do anything to hurt me.

The restaurant door screeched open sending Stacey bounding to her fiancé's side. I took a deep breath and hesitantly spun around to greet the long awaited.

“Dad!?!”
