BRANDING FOR WRITERS AND AUTHORS: Learn How to Create a Consistent and Powerful Brand for Your Writing and/or Author Career by M. Shannon Hernandez

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Whether you are a freelance writer, author, or both, it is imperative that you have a strong brand identity so that others know who you are, what you stand for, and the kind of work you want to be known for. Have you been struggling with how to brand yourself as an author and/or writer? It’s a common struggle, but one that once you master, will make your writing career so much stronger, consistent, and noticeable.

This four-week course provides an in-depth look at how to brand yourself as an author or writer. The classes are interactive in format, allowing students to participate with both fellow students and the instructor, on a weekly basis. All materials submitted are reviewed and thoughtful, specific feedback will be provided to each student.

This tele-class starts on Monday, September 14, 2015.

This course meets for one hour each week, for 4 weeks (Monday, Sept. 14, 21, 8, and October 5).

All classes are held from 1-2pm ET, via a conference phone line. (International callers may dial in via Skype or phone.) If you are a learner who prefers to learn at your own pace, you can access the recording at anytime—no need to call in at designated times.

Format
This course is offered via live tele-class. All tele-classes are interactive and combine teaching with student discussion and Q&A.

Tele-classes are live workshops given over the phone, where you can interact with the instructor and the other students. Tele-classes make learning from your home or office convenient.

The tele-classes will be recorded, so if you miss a session, you will be able to download the audio recording of the class and listen to it when you have the time. Class recordings are made available within 48 hours of the class date.

WEEKS AT A GLANCE:

Week One: Defining Your Brand. We will discuss the various ways to think about your overall brand and brainstorm the tone and level of authenticity you want your brand to capture.

Assignment: Students will draft a brand profile and submit for instructor feedback.

Week Two: Branding Your Website. We will talk about how to create branded copy and content for your author/writer needs.

Assignment: Students will lay out a preliminary website content plan (or revise an existing plan) that fits their brand personality and submit for instructor review and feedback.

Week Three: Creating a Consistent Brand Across all Social Media Channels. We will discuss the importance of brand consistency across all social media channels you will be using.

Assignment: Students will write/rewrite their social media profiles reflecting a consistent brand across all platforms.

Week Four: How to Promote Your Brand Authentically. We will discuss various ways to promote your brand in an authentic and consistent way.

Assignment: Students will write several social media posts for various platforms and submit for instructor review and feedback.

Materials needed: All written materials and resources are provided by the instructor.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: M.
